wisdom of a 15-year-old boy...

The best week ever is over. Unfortunately. I can no longer step out of bed in the morning ready to walk to the beach and spend every hour with my family. I can't eat massive amounts of strawberries and "body-surf" for so long that my eyes hurt from salt water. I can't play board games with ten people or play hide & seek with my cousins.

The reunion is over. Until all 26 of us gather again in two summers.

I can't wait until then.

Although all of the seven days were wonderful and full of fun, one of my most favorite moments of the week was a specific conversation with one of my cousins. He is the most ridiculous, weird, obnoxious kid I know, but also the one that I can't stop listening to and laughing at. He's that funny.

It was the first reunion with the new baby. Sophia the Great. The first great-grandchild in the bunch. So great to have the youngsters around again now that the "littles" have grown up.

And so the story goes: My crazy cousin, Seth, was asking Sophia's mom why she was having kids so young. He thought that she had so much life to live. But, she is 27, has a doctorate, is married, has a full time job....really what else does she want. Seth thought that she needed to "wander" for a few years. "You are still way too young! At least wait until you're 40!" I have no idea where he got this idea.

He wasn't done yet though. Later on that night, he decided to change his whole stance on babies. "If you would've had Sophia like 10 years ago, you wouldn't be dealing with this right now! She'd be, like, 11 years old!"

Moral of the story: Have your kids at 17 or 40. Nothing in between.

I don't know where this kid gets his logic. But he is a winner.
